DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

21 Feb

This happened to my family in their city..👇

Do not eat at Wandering Vine!

An hour before our prepaid reservation of $324.38, we were involved in a car wreck. After getting off the phone with 911, my husband immediately called the restaurant to explain what happened and ask for a solution: restaurant credit, another day, anything reasonable.

Carla Dyer, the owner, said there would be no refund, no credit, and no alternative. We were told we needed to show up or forfeit our money.

So we showed up. We live three minutes from where the wreck occurred and about twenty minutes from the restaurant. We grabbed clothes, got in a Lyft, and arrived shaken but trying to honor a reservation we had already paid for in full.

Once seated, the adrenaline wore off. I had hit my head during the wreck and became nauseated. We asked again, calmly, if there was any flexibility given the circumstances.

Instead of working toward a solution, Carla came to our table and yelled directly in my husband’s face.

My husband is Black, Carla is white.

We decided to leave. The only disruption was caused by her. There was no safety concern, no unpaid bill. Yet she followed us outside and called the police.

Calling police on a Black man who has paid in full and is choosing to leave is not a neutral act. It carries weight and it escalates risk. It is intimidation.

If this is how ownership handles a couple who experienced a car wreck an hour before dinner, imagine how they handle anything else.

Also, here’s a link to review the health department’s recent noncompliance reports; which includes 11 violations in July 2025. 🤮 https://foodsafety.kda.ks.gov/FoodSafety/Web/Inspection/PublicInspectionSearch.aspx during our visit, the bathroom sink had no hot water.
